Is the Loch Ness Monster holidaying downunder on Magnetic Island?

Is the Loch Ness Monster holidaying down-under on Magnetic Island?
Last Friday, 25th October 2013, Magnetic Island Marriage Celebrant David Crusty Herron was walking along Magnetic Island's Picnic Bay Beach with a prospective bride & groom to select a location for their wedding ceremony. This is what they saw,

Loch Ness Monster or Lost Ness Monster?

On Monday 28 October 2013 The Townsville Bulletin Carried this story by Reporter Emma Channon.

Monster mystery as 'Lost Nessie' spotted off Magnetic Island

The Courier Mail Monday 28 October 2013 headline...

BREAKING NEWS

Has Loch Ness monster migrated to Nth Qld?

COULD a North Queensland tropical island have its very own Loch Ness monster?

Some beachgoers at Magnetic Island, off Townsville, seem to think so after seeing a distinctive long, curved "neck" bobbing up and down off the coast on Friday.

But marine biologists who've seen the picture say the unidentified marine object is probably a piece of a tree or boat.

And a man who has dedicated his life studying mythical animals is also unconvinced it's a "Nessie".

The strange sea sighting has created quite a buzz on the island, with locals desperate to know: just what is lurking in the water?

One of them is marriage celebrant David "Crusty" Herron, who photographed it from a beach about 200 metres away.

"It was bobbing up and down in the water and at first I thought 'what's that'?" Mr Herron told AAP.

"Someone yelled out 'it looks like a Loch Ness monster'.

"I've never seen anything like it - it could be anything. We are all wanting to know what it is."

Distressed Green Turtle Rescued at Magnetic Island

Last Sunday Magnetic Islanders got together at Picnic Bay to rescue another distressed turtle. The large green turtle, named Gulbura by the rescuers, was seen floating just off Picnic Bay Beach. Gulbura was unable to dive and was under immediate threat from passing boats.

Whilst many islanders including, first on the scene, one of our trained carers, she knows who she is, and some island visitors were involved in the rescue, the heroes of the moment were Jumara Kyle and Kayte Wightman. The couple were fishing with friends on the jetty and when approached, happily hauled in their lines to assist us. Jumara & Kayte drifted their boat close to the turtle then dived into the water to gently bring Gulbura 150+metres to another waiting volunteer carer on the beach. Hellen Campbell was assisted by her sister Mandy and other bystanders. Gulbura is currently undergoing emergency treatment at Maggie's Horseshoe Bay Turtle Hospital. Read more about our *MINT facility in the Magnetic Times

The cause of Gulbura's demise is not yet known. Generally accumulation of gas is the cause of Floating Syndrome. An accumulation of gas can be caused by a turtle ingesting a foreign object such as a hook, fishing line, plastics, other garbage items; or pollution caused bacterial infections; or dehydration. The turtle did have markings on her carapace that appeared to have been made by either a net or a small propeller according to several experienced islanders.

Thanks to all. We wish her well and hope for a speedy recovery. Gulbura was classified as 'Her' because she was too beautiful to be male. I hope nobody publishes the pics of me as Tony Abbott in 'budgie smugglers'.

As of Wednesday, Gulbura's condition is critical

New! Facebook Abbreviations from the farcebook-team blog. WOBH!

Tired of the same old? Well, here's a new facebook abbreviation (acronym) to test drive. WOBH. An aging farcebook-team contributor found an old screen printed T-shirt from his hippie days in the 60s.

this is for 'Stabby Rivke' on facebook

Disclaimer.
Around the time of Australia's version of Woodstock 1960's a bloke ka,
BBQ Bob the Bastard Burton got a friend to think up a slogan to express his amazement at the actions of the Queensland Government of the day, that would not get him arrested. Of course the original artwork was hand drawn  & not simply flicked off the net.

On Magnetic Island we think twice before spreading a rumour. Well most of us. Try the Ultimate Gossip Test.

On  Magnetic Island most of us think twice before spreading a rumour. Here is a short story that explains the three filters of Socrates – The Ultimate Gossip Test. Here it goes...

Everything the gossip monger told me is true!
Because some other gossip monger told me it was.
(DCH2009)

~O~

One day the great philosopher Socrates came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?"

Socrates"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three."

"Three?"

"That's right, Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely

sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's True or not."

"Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him even though you're not certain it's true?"

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued. "You may still pass though, because there is a third test - the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be Useful to me?"

"No, not really..."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"

The man was defeated and ashamed. This was the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.
~oOo~

In our world so full of cynicism and skepticism, will repeating this story be kind? Would it be better left unsaid? Would you really be better off repeating this information?

When you analyze it this way, your chances of being gossiper are dramatically reduced.

Magnetic Island - Home of 'Backward Palm Frond Tossing'

Magnetic Island. The home of the latest sporting craze, 'Backward Palm Frond Tossing'. You could become the next World Champion Tosser in the 2013 Season.

Image Man Tossing palm fronds on Magnetic Island

We were going to call it Flinging but flinging is more a forward, or sideways thing. Besides tossing sounds much more macho. Although Palm Frond Flinging does have a nice ring to it. And being a backward motion the action of successfully tossing requires a high degree of skill and focus. See footnote +.

As for the what, when, where and why? We'll publish more details as they come to hand.

My mother would win this easily because she had eyes in he back of her head

+ Footnote:
Any inference that our government is comprised of politicians and bureaucrats, call them Tossers, having a backward motion, is intentional but quite obscure.
