Is the Loch Ness Monster holidaying downunder on Magnetic Island?

Is the Loch Ness Monster holidaying down-under on Magnetic Island?
Last Friday, 25th October 2013, Magnetic Island Marriage Celebrant David Crusty Herron was walking along Magnetic Island's Picnic Bay Beach with a prospective bride & groom to select a location for their wedding ceremony. This is what they saw,

Loch Ness Monster or Lost Ness Monster?

On Monday 28 October 2013 The Townsville Bulletin Carried this story by Reporter Emma Channon.

Monster mystery as 'Lost Nessie' spotted off Magnetic Island

The Courier Mail Monday 28 October 2013 headline...

BREAKING NEWS

Has Loch Ness monster migrated to Nth Qld?

COULD a North Queensland tropical island have its very own Loch Ness monster?

Some beachgoers at Magnetic Island, off Townsville, seem to think so after seeing a distinctive long, curved "neck" bobbing up and down off the coast on Friday.

But marine biologists who've seen the picture say the unidentified marine object is probably a piece of a tree or boat.

And a man who has dedicated his life studying mythical animals is also unconvinced it's a "Nessie".

The strange sea sighting has created quite a buzz on the island, with locals desperate to know: just what is lurking in the water?

One of them is marriage celebrant David "Crusty" Herron, who photographed it from a beach about 200 metres away.

"It was bobbing up and down in the water and at first I thought 'what's that'?" Mr Herron told AAP.

"Someone yelled out 'it looks like a Loch Ness monster'.

"I've never seen anything like it - it could be anything. We are all wanting to know what it is."

On Magnetic Island we think twice before spreading a rumour. Well most of us. Try the Ultimate Gossip Test.

On  Magnetic Island most of us think twice before spreading a rumour. Here is a short story that explains the three filters of Socrates – The Ultimate Gossip Test. Here it goes...

Everything the gossip monger told me is true!
Because some other gossip monger told me it was.
(DCH2009)

~O~

One day the great philosopher Socrates came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?"

Socrates"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three."

"Three?"

"That's right, Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely

sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's True or not."

"Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him even though you're not certain it's true?"

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued. "You may still pass though, because there is a third test - the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be Useful to me?"

"No, not really..."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"

The man was defeated and ashamed. This was the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.

In our world so full of cynicism and skepticism, will repeating this story be kind? Would it be better left unsaid? Would you really be better off repeating this information?

When you analyze it this way, your chances of being gossiper are dramatically reduced.

Magnetic Island - Home of 'Backward Palm Frond Tossing'

Magnetic Island. The home of the latest sporting craze, 'Backward Palm Frond Tossing'. You could become the next World Champion Tosser in the 2013 Season.

Image Man Tossing palm fronds on Magnetic Island

We were going to call it Flinging but flinging is more a forward, or sideways thing. Besides tossing sounds much more macho. Although Palm Frond Flinging does have a nice ring to it. And being a backward motion the action of successfully tossing requires a high degree of skill and focus. See footnote +.

As for the what, when, where and why? We'll publish more details as they come to hand.

My mother would win this easily because she had eyes in he back of her head

+ Footnote:
Any inference that our government is comprised of politicians and bureaucrats, call them Tossers, having a backward motion, is intentional but quite obscure.

Volcano erupts near Magnetic Island Queensland

Smoke plumes as a volcano erupts just off Magnetic Island
on Cape Cleveland just kilometres from Townsville in Tropical North Queensland

As the end of the world draws nigh on the 21st December 2012 a volcano erupted on Wednesday October 31, 2012 in North Queensland

As smoke plumed over Cape Cleveland, darkening the skies, a massive crowd of around eight people headed for the hills shouting and shrieking, "We're Doomed! It's the end of the world!"

However all is not lost, as one Magnetic Island local summed up this terrifying phenomena saying,

"It's not a volcano. It's just more smoke and mirror tactics from the Megalomaniac, the evil sheriff of Brisvegas Campbell Newman and his insanely rabid bureaucracies as they rip us off to subsidise his bid for the 2024 Olympic Games in Brisbane."

Barbecued Free Range Eggs - Magnetic Island Style - Fresh from Chook to Cook

Barbecued Free Range Eggs - Magnetic Island Style - Fresh from Chook to Cook

Look closely you'll see the eggs

...and the chooks that laid the eggs would beg for food around the tables of alfreso diners, while goats frolicked up and down the mango trees.

What was this place called?
  Do you know this place?

A Clue: Following is an extract from Mary Vernon's 'About Town' column in the Townsvile Bulletin June 4 2010.

"YESTERDAY's story about drunk parrots falling out of the sky in Darwin reminded me of a time when I lived in a house (on Magnetic Island) with a big umbrella tree in the front garden. Every year when it flowered the parrots would have a party and get as drunk as lords - they were noisier than a brace of jackhammers. The same house backed onto the old mango farm which was home to a giant 350 kg pig, Georgina. In the mango season, the mangoes would fall into her sty, ferment on the ground and she would get drunk too. She didn't make too much noise when drunk, but the next day when she woke up with a hangover, the howling and moaning could be heard at Palm Island I'd reckon. Luckily the mango season and the umbrella flower season weren't at the same time or life wouldn't have been worth living."

Here's another clue: from the "Bootsnall Travel Site"

Escape to Magnetic Island - escape the senseless frenetic madness of 'day to day life'.

Magnetic Island is a place where you can escape the senseless frenetic madness of 'day to day life'.  You simply stick your head in the sand on one of our 23 beaches & bays and let politically correct zealots [PCZ], bureaucrats & fundamentalists bring about the end of the world as we know it. Why should we worry about man's blind indifference to his fellow *man if we can do nothing about it?

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? ...do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Live in the moment... this Magnetic Island Sunbird family does... supporting each other with Love.
